Soup is usually a savoury liquid food that is made by combining ingredients, such as meat, vegetables and beans in stock or hot water, until the flavor is extracted, forming a broth. Boiling was not a common cooking technique until the invention of waterproof containers about 5,000 years ago. The word “soup” comes from the older word “sop,” a slice of bread covered with beef roast juices. Some say the first soup dates to about 6000 B.C.; Soup recipes started to evolve from then and now we have a plethora of choices for soups.
Soups are now quite common in various countries, ethnicities, culture and cuisine. Many people love soups more than anything else. Soups are an essential and healthy diet for the ailing patients and known to be a great, easy to digest food for it’s restorative and strength-building properties. Wherever you go now, you’ll surely find your favorite soups in the hotels, eateries and restaurants. The most popular are the tomato soup, chicken soup and the hot-n-sour chicken soup. For health conscious people or on weight loss programs, tomato soup is an all time favorite.
There are various types of soup recipes based on the ingredients, cooking procedure and country of origin. Common ingredients of soups are meat (beef, chicken, mutton, fish, crab, etc.), vegetables (tomato, corn, beans, leafy veggies, onions, chili etc.), milk, cream, stock, noodles, cheese to list a few. Soups are not only healthy but very tasty too. Many experts consider soups as the food usually that are easy to digest and retains the natural nutrients of the ingredients, unlike other cooked and spicy foods.
