The Gym Class Heroes have been taking the charts by storm with there song Cupid’s Chokehold. Many people don’t know but Gym Class Heroes have been around since 1997, when two New York high school students got together. The have been signed by Fueled by Ramen and Atlantic Records.
Their lyrics stick in your head and when your not listening to music you find yourself singing:
Take a look at my girlfriend
She’s the only one I got (ba ba da da)
Not much of a girlfriend
I never seem to get a lot (ba ba da da, ba ba da da)
The sound is clean and repetitive, with a few breaks from the low, pop-influenced melodic loop. Put together very well, you can’t help know Gym Class Heroes are the byproduct of a d 90′s meets 2000 sort of sound. Gym Class Heroes has only put out two major albums, both in the last two years. The members of the band include Travis McCoy, Matt McGinley, Eric Roberts and guitarist Dasashi Lumumba-Kasongo.
Regardless of all the notice from the pop-music world, “Cupid’s Chokehold” isn’t the band’s first well-known song. “Taxi Driver,” a song featuring the band incorporating the names of many indie bands into a story, was an underground hit that led many to fall in love with the band’s clever lyrics and flow.
